OUTREACH MINISTRIES
Our outreach committee has been growing increasingly committed, getting involved in such local ministries as Elijah’s Bowl and Haven Ministries, among others. We also hold a free meal for the community on our front lawn each summer, complete with games and activities for the kids. It is our passion to continue to find ways to reach beyond our walls with the hope we have come to experience not only for our lives, but for our whole region.
Community Pancake Breakfast
The last Sunday of each month, the Outreach ministry of Catawissa Avenue UMC will be hosting a free community pancake and sausage breakfast in the fellowship hall. Serving time is from 8:15 to 9:00am. Please join us for plenty of good food and fellowship and then please join us at Sunday School. We will be glad to join you too.
SOUP PLACE
The Soup Place is a ministry of several churches, the purpose of which is to serve a weekly free meal to the needy. Volunteers from Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church play an active role in this ministry.
SOUP PLACE - DATES
On the 3rd Thursday of each month, Catawissa Avenue Methodist Church will be serving the free meal starting at 4:30pm at First Reformed Church at 160 Chestnut St, Sunbury. This meal is open to anyone in need of food and fellowship.
LOADS OF LOVE LAUNDRY NIGHT
In April, the Outreach Committee will be holding their Annual "Loads of Love" event at the laundry mat. We will pay to help wash your clothes so you can spend more time with your family.
NEIGHBORHOOD HILL COMMUNITY YARD SALE
In May, the Outreach Committee has a Yard Sale to go along with the Hill Neighborhood Yard Sales. We would love for you to stop by and see us!
PIG ROAST
In September, the Outreach Committee will hold their Annual Pig Roast. A small army of volunteers help cook, serve, play games, mingle, and provide good music, good food, and a good time for all who come and participate!
HALLOWEEN NIGHT
In October, the Outreach Committee will be holding their Annual Halloween Night, where you can stop and pick up a hot dog, chips, drink, and a special Halloween surprise. Come and mingle with friends.
HARVEST HOME
In November, the Outreach Committee will be collecting Thanksgiving food items to fill Thanksgiving Baskets for families in need this harvest season. Donations of stuffing mix, instant mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans canned pumpkin, cranberry sauce, and turkey gravy are brought to the church. Monetary donations were also accepted toward the purchase of turkeys.
ANGEL TREE
In December, the Outreach Committee will be creating an Angel Tree this Advent Season. Items for children in need will be placed on the tree. If you would like to sponsor a child this Christmas, please take an angel from the tree, purchase the items on the tag and return the wrapped gifts to the church. If you know of children in need, please contact Pastor Dilip, Kim Harmon, or Meg Moyer.
